Our latest <\/span>Sustainability Report<\/span><\/a> is available and here we are\u00a0 explaining the content of the key chapters.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>‘Environment\u2019<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 is our <\/span>\u2018most material topic\u2019<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But what does that mean?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Material\u2019 and \u2018materiality\u2019<\/span><\/b> are words that\u00a0 often appear across the Sustainability Report and are used to define those <\/span>issues that are relevant and significant for the company,<\/span><\/b> our activities, and our ability to create value (financial and non-financial) for the company itself and our stakeholders.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Sustainability Report Environment chapter details RETAL\u2019s climate change action with our <\/span>goal to set Science-based targets<\/span><\/b> for<\/span> greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction via SBTi (Science Based Target initiatives)<\/span><\/b> .<\/span><\/b> It also explains our mitigation strategy to use as much renewable energy as possible \u2013 goal is to reach 100% in EU & US by the end of 2023 \u2013, phasing out fossil fuels and increasing our energy efficiency across our plants.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Energy,<\/span><\/b> after labour, represents RETAL\u2019s largest operational cost, and is also a major contributor to our GHG emissions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sources of emissions\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Different sources of GHG emissions (<\/span>scope 1, 2 and 3<\/span><\/b>) and the leverage we have to mitigate them are explained in this chapter. Scope 1 and 2 are our operational emissions, generated by the combustion of fossil fuels at our plants and the generation of the electricity we use, which are under our control. Scope 3 are indirect emissions generated up and downstream, for example by transport of final goods and raw material or the production of our raw material.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It also explains how we aim to contribute to the <\/span>plastic circular economy<\/span><\/b> to reduce plastic pollution and our GHG emissions by promoting Design for Recycling, encouraging use of recycled materials and lightweighting products.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report then gives information on our management of water and waste although both are low materiality topics for RETAL.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report details how we<\/span> support our goals for boosting our <\/span>CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project)<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>EcoVadis <\/span><\/b>scores, which are important performance evaluation systems for climate change and CSR respectively.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
